What's This Site About?
"A man's reach must exceed his grasp," wrote Browning. If this is true of anything,
it's true of travel. Can any of us ever reach all the places we've heard of and
dreamed
of? Only the richest and most blessed with time, if them. (Remember the joke about the
couple at the travel agent: "We've been around the world. Now we want to go somewhere
else.") This Web site is for those who use books to go "somewhere I have never
travel'd, gladly beyond any experience," as well as for those who want to read about
where they are about to travel, are traveling, have traveled, or hope to travel. As a
start, I have entered several hundred books which for me evoke a place and time.
Visitors are invited to add their suggestions, their commentaries, and their
observations by sending me a submission
email. I hope the site will grow to the thousands, and will direct readers to good
books about every country and locale where writers have made their mark.
